Setting Up Eudora (Windows) |
With Eudora
opened, refer to the Tools menu, and
select Options. This will open a
dialog box with several settings
items in the lefthand side. First,
select "Personal Info", which will
produce the following settings to
input:
-
POP Account
-
Real Name
-
Return Address
For the POP
Account setting, you would use a
combination of your Newsguy username
and the Newsguy POP Server address.
Please replace "your-username" with
your Newsguy username:
username@pop.newsguy.com
For Real
Name, please feel free to set with a
name of your choosing. Most tend to
use their first and/or last name.
For Return Address, your would use
your Newsguy email address, as
referenced in the confirmation email
that you received when you joined
the service. It would look something
like this:
your-address@newsguy.com
When these
settings have been put in place,
please click on the "Hosts" option
that should appear in the lefthand
column within Eudora's settings
area. The following items will
appear:
For POP
Account, this should already be
filled in, with the setting you made
in the previous section. For SMTP,
please input the following:
Your NewsGuy
account does not include Internet
access - smtp.newsguy.com
Your NewsGuy
account includes Internet access -
smtp2.newsguy.com
That should
cover it for the settings, and you
can now click the OK button to save.
From here, in order to check
incoming mail messages, please refer
to the File menu, and select the
option to "Check Mail". You can also
use the keyboard sequence "Ctrl+M"
as a shortcut. When prompted, input
your password for your Newsguy
account, and new messages will
appear.
To send a message, refer to the
Message menu, and select "New
Message". You can also use the
keyboard sequence "Ctrl+N" as a
shortcut. A message box will appear,
with the From line defaulted to your
email address. From there, input the
email address you're sending to in
the To field, the Subject of your
message, and then type your message
in the body. Click the Send button
once finished to send your message. |

Setting Up Netscape (Windows) |
With the
Netscape program opened, refer to
the Window menu option, and select
the option Netscape Mail. This will
open the email client program
built-in to Netscape.
Within Netscape Mail, refer to the
Options menu, and select Mail and
News Preferences. A dialog box will
appear with five folder tabs labeled
Appearance, Composition, Servers,
Identity, and Organization. Click on
the tab for Servers. In the Servers
section, you want to pay attention
to the first three, where you would
input the following:
Outgoing Mail(SMTP) Server:
smtp.newsguy.com
Incoming Mail(POP) Server:
pop.newsguy.com
POP3 User Name: NewsGuy username
Outgoing Mail(SMTP) Server:
smtp2.newsguy.com (if your
account includes Internet access)
Once completed, click on the tab for
Identity, and the following settings
will appear:
-
Your Name
-
Your Email
-
Reply-to Address
You're more
than welcome to input whatever you
like for Your Name, with most users
typically setting to their first
and/or last name. The Your Email and
Reply-to Address fields should be
set to your specific Newsguy email
address, and would look something
like this...
your-address@newsguy.com
That covers it for the settings. In
order to check for incoming
messages, refer to the File menu in
Netscape Mail, and select the option
"Get New Mail", or use the keyboard
sequence "Ctrl+T" as a shortcut.
Additionally, you can click the "Get
Mail" button all the way to the left
in the toolbar at the top of
Netscape Mail. From there, input
your password setting when prompted,
and any new messages will appear in
your mailbox.
To send a message, refer to the File
menu and select the "New Mail
Message" option, or use the keyboard
sequence "Ctrl+M" as a shortcut. You
can also click the "To:Mail" button
in the top toolbar of Netscape Mail.
Your message box will appear, and
you would then input the email
address you're sending to in the
Mail To files, the subject in the
Subject field, and then type your
message in the body. Click the Send
button to send your message once
finished. |

Setting Up Outlook Express (Windows) |
With Outlook
Express opened, go to the Tools menu
and select Accounts option. Once the
dialog box opens, click on the Mail
tab at the top, and then click the
Add button to the right of it. This
will start the Internet Connection
Wizard, which will take you through
the process for setting up Outlook
Express.
In the first box, you will be asked
for your name. Enter it as you would
like it to appear on outgoing mail,
such as your First and/or Last Name,
and then click the Next button. From
there, you will be asked to enter
your email address. For this, input
your Newsguy address and Click the
Next button. Your email address
should look something like this...
your-address@newsguy.com
The next dialog box will prompt you
for the Email Server Names. At the
top, make sure that it says My
incoming mail server is a POP3
server. For Incoming mail (POP3 or
IMAP) server, input the following...
pop.newsguy.com
For Outgoing mail (SMTP) server,
input the following and click the
Next button...
Your NewsGuy
account does not include Internet
access - smtp.newsguy.com
Your NewsGuy
account includes Internet access -
smtp2.newsguy.com
The next
dialog box will prompt you for your
Internet Mail Logon. Make sure that
Log on using: is selected and enter
your Newsguy username in the "POP
account name:" field. Enter your
Newsguy password in the "Password:"
field. Please make sure these are
inputted exactly as they were
indicated in your Newsguy
confirmation letter. Click the Next
button once you've done this.
You will then be asked for a
Friendly Name, which would be the
name for the mailbox you just
created in Outlook Express' list of
accounts. Input the word Newsguy
here, and click the Next button. The
next dialog box will ask how you're
connected to the Internet. Please
select..
"Connect
using my phone line" and click the
Next button.
In the next dialog box, click the
Finish button. You should now see
your entry in the list of accounts.
Click the Close button. Once you
have configured Outlook Express, you
can check your incoming mail
messages by clicking the Send and
Receive icon in the toolbar, or by
going to the Tools menu and
selecting the Send and Receive
option.
To send a new message, click on the
Compose Message icon in the top
toolbar, or by going to the Compose
menu and selecting New Message
option. You will then see a
composition window in which you can
enter the recipient's address in the
To: field, the subject of the
message in the Subject: field and
the body of your message.
When you are done putting your
message together, click the Send
icon in the toolbar of the message
window, or by going to the File menu
and selecting Send Message option. |

Setting Up Claris (Macintosh) |
With the
Claris program opened, refer to the
Setup pull-down menu and choose
Internet Setup. A dialog box will
appear labeled Internet Service
Entry, with several fields and
settings to configure. For the
Account Name, please input your
NewsGuy username. You can also input
the same information for the User
Name setting, or it can be left
blank. For the Email Address field,
you would input your NewsGuy email
address in the following format...
your-address@newsguy.com
With the Email Account setting, you
would use a combination of your
Newsguy username and the Newsguy POP
server address. It would look
something like this, replacing
"your-username" with your Newsguy
username...
your-username@pop.newsguy.com
Insert your NewsGuy password into
the Email Password settings field.
The SMTP Host should be set to the
following, which controls the
sending of mail messages:

Click the Save button at the top to
store these settings for future
access.
In order to check for incoming
messages, please refer to the Mail
menu, and then select the option
Connect Now. A dialog box will then
appear, and once it does, click the
Connect button. The program will
then retrieve any new messages
delivered to your mailbox. From
there, another dialog box will
appear, with your messages listed in
order of receipt. To view,
double-click on the message.
In order to send an email message,
please refer to the Mail menu, and
then select the option New. A dialog
box will then appear where you input
who you're sending the message to,
the subject of the message, and the
message itself.
Within the Subject field, type in
the subject of your message. For the
Recipient field, you would input the
first and/or last name, or nickname,
for the person you are sending the
message to. The Email Address field
should include the email address for
the person you are sending the
message to. Once these fields are
complete, type the message you wish
to send in the large space below.
Once completed, click the Send Now
button at the top of the box to send
your message to the user. |

Setting Up Eudora (Macintosh) |
With Eudora
opened, please refer to the Special
menu, and select the Configuration
option. A dialog box will appear
with certain fields that you'll
configure for sending/receiving mail
messages. The POP Account setting
would be a combination of your
Newsguy username, and the Newsguy
POP server address. It would look
something like this, replacing
"your-username" with your Newsguy
username:
your-username@pop.newsguy.com
In the Real Name field, you can
input your full name or nickname,
according to your preference. This
will appear within any messages sent
to other users. For the Connection
Method, please set to either MacTCP
or TCP/IP, depending on which you
are using to dialup to the Internet.
The SMTP Server is responsible for
sending your mail messages. This
should be set to the following...
Your NewsGuy

access - smtp.newsguy.com
Your NewsGuy
account includes Internet access -
smtp2.newsguy.com
With the
Return Address setting, this would
be your Newsguy email address, which
is the address that would receive
your incoming email messages. This
would look something like this...
your-address@newsguy.com
The other options can be left as
default, or you can set according to
your preference. Click the OK button
near the bottom, in order to store
your settings for future use.
Following are details for sending
and receiving mail messages with
Eudora on the Macintosh.
In order to check for incoming
messages to your NewsGuy mailbox,
please refer to the File menu, and
select the Check Mail option. Any
new messages will then be downloaded
to your In box. Once they appear,
simply double-click on a message to
view.
When sending an email message, first
refer to the Message menu, and then
select the option New Message within
it. From there, a dialog box will
appear, where you will compose your
message. Within the To: line, input
the email address for the person you
are sending a message to. The From:
line will be defaulted with your
email address. For the Subject:
line, input the subject for your
message. After this, you would then
input the message you would like to
send in the large area below the
above. Once completed, click the
Send button, and your message will
then be sent to the user. |
