Your computer's operating system contains a dialer that houses
all of your important Internet access
settings. It will automatically dial your modem to establish a
connection to the Internet, and the following instructions will
help you to configure your dialer to work with NewsGuy's Internet
service. If you have any questions please email our
support staff for
assistance.
Configuring Your Windows NT Dialer:
1. To complete the
Windows NT Dial-Up Networking configuration, the Remote Access service
(RAS) must be installed and configured for your modem. To confirm RAS is
installed, click "Start", then "Settings", then choose "Control Panel".
Double-click the "Network" icon and choose the "Services" tab.
2. If "Remote Access Service" is included in your list, you can
skip to step 6. If it's not listed, you would need your Windows NT
installation disk and choose the "Add..." button to install that service
on your computer. Scroll down until the "Remote Access Service" option
is visible and select that option. Click the "OK" button.
3. Insert your Windows NT installation disk in your CD-ROM drive
when the setup box appears and click "Continue". In the "Add RAS Device"
box, click the down arrow and choose the modem that is installed on your
computer. Click the "OK" button.
4. When the "Remote Access Setup" box appears, select your modem
from the list, then click the "Configure..." button. When the "Configure
Port Usage" box opens, select the "Dial out only" option and click the
"OK" button. Within the "Remote Access Setup" area click the
"Network..." button. Select the option for "TCP/IP" and deselect the
other options. Click the "OK" button.
5. Once the "Configure..." and "Network..." settings are
completed above, select the "Continue" button to save your settings.
Your system will need to be restarted in order to save these new
settings. Once that is complete you can continue with Step 6.
6. Double-click "My Computer", then "Dialup_Networking". Choose
the "New..." button, and the "Basic" tab. For the "Entry name" name type

that number in the "Area code" and "Phone number" fields. Check the
option for "Use Telephony dialing properties". To find a local
dialup number in your area, please select your location from the
following menu:

the option for "Enable PPP LCP extensions".

choose the "Server assigned IP address" option and "Server assigned name
server addresses". Also check the "Use IP header compression" and "Use
default gateway on remote network" if those are not already checked.
Next click the "OK" button.
9. Click the "Script" tab and choose the "None" option. Then
click the Security tab and choose the option for "Accept any
authentication including clear text". Click the "OK" button. This will
create a phone book entry in your "Dial-Up Networking".
10. From here, you're now ready to dialup and connect to the
Internet. Click on the "My Computer" icon within your Windows NT window,
and then double-click the option for "Dial-Up Networking". Click the
"Dial" button. When prompted, input your Username and Password IDs
exactly as they appeared in the confirmation email you received when you
purchased your Newsguy account, and leave the "Domain" field blank. You
can also select the option to "Save Password" for future use. Click
"OK", and your modem will dial, login to Newsguy, and connect.
11. Within Windows NT, you can also set a shortcut for your
Dial-Up Networking program icon, rather than referring to it within that
program box. To do this, refer to the "Dial-Up Networking" program box,
and drag your program icon for your dialup connection to the Windows NT
screen. You will then be prompted as to whether you want to set a a
shortcut. Select "Yes", and it will be defaulted with the name "Shortcut
to My Connection". You can rename this by moving your mouse pointer over
it, clicking on your right mouse button, and selecting the option to
"Rename". You can then double-click this shortcut icon to establish your
Internet connection in the future.
